Who Framed Chalkboard (rabbit)?

When we were asked to help some friends repurpose their dining room into a home office, they asked us to incorporate a large chalkboard into the design. It was a massive chalkboard….approximately 4′ x 6′. The standard metal frame with chalk/eraser tray wasn’t quite what we envisioned for the room. Our solution, remove the tray, take some 3″ window trim and attach it to the edges, and then take a 1″ piece of trim around that. To make the 1″ trim piece, I bought a 1×6″ premium whitewood piece and ripped it through the table saw to give me 4 -1″x1″ pieces. The 1″ trim piece would go around the edges to cover up the existing metal frame.

I used my finish nailer and wood glue to attach everything. Once it was mounted, I used some spackle to smooth out the cracks, nail holes, and mitered corners.
