$50 Granite Countertops

No, we’re not joking. And yes, our current countertops are the oak finish from IKEA.

But before we shelled out the big bucks to purchase the oak countertops (not really), we thought we’d try a little experiment that we saw on the Today Show called “Giani” Italian Granite Paint for Countertops.

The product costs $50, comes with a sponge kit, a video, and all the paint you colors you could possibly need for your particular “granite finish.”

When Tommy showed me the video clip online, I was skeptical; however, we figured that if we were going to remove these countertops to replace them with oak anyways, why not have a little fun and see if this stuff actually works?

And it totally did work! $50 changed the look of our aged, lackluster laminate countertops and transformed them into something attractive and clean.

Ultimately, it wasn’t the look we were going for in our kitchen, but what an economical way to update your countertops if you can’t afford to go out and purchase new ones.

It’s also a great weekend project, totally DIY-friendly. If you didn’t catch it earlier, here’s the link to the video from the Today Show.

Here are some before and afters of our kitchen with the Giani Granite Countertop paint:
